Casa de la India announces the official call for applications to participate in the India–Spain Cross-Cultural Screenwriting Lab “Stories that Travel”, to be held from 12 to 17 March 2026 in Tarrasa (Barcelona) at the ESCAC – Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya campus.

  1. ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

In recent years, the production and consumption of audiovisual content have undergone significant transformations. Stories that Travel is a programme of screenwriting workshops, masterclasses and intercultural debates designed to explore these changes from a cross-cultural perspective and to apply them to the development of screenplays, enabling local stories to connect with global audiences.

The 2026 edition will take place at the ESCAC campus and will combine creative development, specialised mentoring and professional exchange activities in Tarrasa and Barcelona.

  1. ORGANISATION AND PARTNERS

The Lab is organised by Casa de la India (Valladolid) in collaboration with ESCAC as host partner, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with Spain Film Commission and Casa Asia and with Contentflow (India) as Knowledge Partner.

  1. LAB FORMAT
  • Cross-cultural screenwriting residency
  • Mentorship by film professionals, experts and script doctors from India and Spain
  • Creative work at ESCAC facilities
  • Accommodation for all participants at the ESCAC guest house
  • Three masterclasses
  • Meetings with ESCAC faculty and Spanish film professionals
  • Additional programme activities in the city of Barcelona

The detailed programme will be shared with selected participants after confirmation.

  1. ELIGIBILITY

This call is open to emerging screenwriters of Indian or Spanish nationality.

Eligible projects must be independent feature-length films:

  • Minimum duration: 70 minutes
  • Genres: fiction, documentary or animation
  • In production or pre-production
  • Backed by a producer
  • Local stories with global appeal
  1. SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will consist of two phases:

  1. Until 31 January 2026 – Submission of general project information
  2. Until 10 February 2026 – Submission of scripts for shortlisted projects

A maximum of 6 projects will be selected.

Selected participants will be contacted via email. Participation may not be made public until officially announced.

The credit “Stories that Travel. India–Spain Screenwriting Lab” and Casa de la India must appear in all communication materials and in the film credits if produced.
